Gorgeous, clean home in Vedado. House has large windows, high ceilings and the loveliest porch with the world’s most comfortable rocking chairs. The house is in a residential area, so staying here provides a great opportunity to see local Cuban life up close. There is a market nearby if you wish to purchase fruit and vegetables. About a 10 minute walk to Hotel Nacional and the Malecon. This house is not that close to the city center, but you can walk one block over to Calle 23 to grab a cab. The owner was away in Switzerland so I was not able to meet her; however, Damilca was a wonderful host who was always available if I needed anything. I also insisted on speaking Spanish so that I could practice and she was very patient with my errors. Breakfast every morning consisted of fresh fruit, rolls with butter, fresh juice and coffee. Since I don’t smoke and the other guests did, I was only able to enjoy the porch when I was there alone. If, like me, you prefer non-smoking environment, this may not be the house for you. If you walk to the the end of Calle 19, there is a lovely restaurant named California Cafe that I found on my last night. Also check out Tamy's Cakes, also on Calle 19, for delicious little tarts....
